Green light

Greens agree sex industry policy
The Scottish Greens have agreed to support decriminalising the sex industry.
The party voted in a policy for heavy regulation of the industry to recognise those who work in it voluntarily, by bringing in a strict zero-tolerance policy on people who force others to take part in sex against their will.
The motion, passed by 38 votes to 31 with 10 abstentions at the Scottish Green annual conference in Dundee, brought in the party's first policy on the sex industry.
The party agreed to opt for scrapping restrictions and censorship of sexually explicit material, except for those which protect children, animals or vulnerable adults.
The Greens also said laws against soliciting would be repealed and give sex industry workers the right to join unions and for a minimum wage and to make discrimination against sex workers illegal.
The new policy came in the face of recent proposals announced by the Scottish Executive to criminalise kerb crawling.
Scots Green activist Chloe Stewart, who proposed the policy motion, said: "This is in line with Green policy on social justice, respect for diversity. It's a compassionate, practical motion. It takes the view that some sex workers are working voluntarily."
She added: "I understand the motion has been shown to some people working in the sex industry in this country and they felt that a decriminalised and regulated industry was the one they wanted to work in.
"They did not feel that criminalising their customers was in any way helpful to their situation."
' It eluded us then that orgiastic green light. But thats no matter; tomorrow we'll run faster, hold out our arms further. '
