Lettuce

I laughed out loud when I read the headline in yesterday's paper: "PM protects Christmas Day holiday." Protects it from what? Christmas Day would not need protecting if it weren't for the Government's IR legislation.

Let there be rejoicing throughout the land. Santa Claus Howard will save Christmas. What the Prime Minister doesn't seem to understand is that people want their working conditions to be family friendly and decent every day, not just on iconic public holidays.

For years, John Howard and Peter Costello have been telling us, despite what they now regard as restrictive industrial relations in Australia, that the economy is booming, unemployment is falling, we have consistently out-stripped most of the OECD countries, companies are making bigger profts than ever before and the states are reaping windfall revenues from the GST. If it ain't broke, John, don't meddle.
