The FBI and Sterling Heights police are investigating two separate death threats aimed at city officials ...'
A letter laced with white powder which arrived at Sterling Heights City Hall on Thursday made threats against Community Relations Director Pat Lehman and Police Chief Barnett Jones. The FBI is investigating the matter but Sterling Heights Police Lt. Michael Reese said it's doubtful the origin of the letter can be traced unless the author was so careless as to leave fingerprints on the envelope or note.
The discovery of the white powder in the envelope forced the evacuation of more than 100 employees from City Hall at about 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. A City Council meeting was relocated to the adjacent city library.
Reese said the FBI will conduct additional tests on the powder, envelope and letter but the probe could be completed in a matter of days.
