Everywhere you turn these days, there is news of another scandal under investigation in Washington - and one of the longest simmering of them has to do with Jack Abramoff. The veteran lobbyist is indicted for wire fraud regarding a fleet of casino boats and is also embroiled in allegations regarding Indian casino influence peddling, but his influence and fingerprints are turning up elsewhere as well.
A story on The Mad Cow Morning News by Danuil Hopsicker outlines the "Top Ten Reasons Why the Abramoff Scandal Could Spread Almost Anywhere." It lists "six current scandals" in which the lobbyist is alleged to be entangled: the Indian casino scam in Louisiana; complicity with Tom DeLay in the Marianas Islands trips; the SunCruz gambling cruise scandal; the David Safavian indictment case; an obstruction of justice charge in a Guam-based federal probe; and now even a White House spy scandal, involving former Marine Leandro Aragoncillo.
But that's only the beginning of the list. According to the Mad Cow report, Abramoff is also being linked to Imelda Marcos, the selling of the Iraq war, the recent Gambino Mob hit on Gus Boulis, several more casino scandals around the world, defense contractor kickbacks, shady Internet gambling operations, FEMA ripoff scams, Ollie North and Mohammed Atta, among others.
