Nationals want more done to stop 'super fires'
The Western Australian Nationals have warned the state is not prepared for uncontrollable 'super fires' this summer.
The Nationals' agriculture spokesman, Terry Redman, says the predicted hot summer and a build-up of vegetation could potentially cause major bushfires this year.
The State and Federal Government have recently committed more than $1 million to upgrade fire breaks and trails to help stop bushfires.
Mr Redman says this is not enough.
"If we are to reduce the risk of a super fire then we need to make sure we have controls in place," he said.
"Now $1.1 million across the state, I know it is a contribution and I certainly would support that, but I don't really think it goes far enough to putting the necessary controls in place for us to properly manage that risk."
